I'm moving over to a .NET project and am going to be working with Visual Studio 2013. I'm a Mac user and going to be working mostly front end. My current setup is an early 2011 MacBook Pro 15' with the following specs:

  • CPU: 2,2GHz Intel Core i7
  • Memory: 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3
  • Gfx: AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
  • Hard drive: 160GB Solid state SATA drive

I would like to continue to run OS X with Visual Studio running in Parallels. I have not tested Visual Studio on my current setup, but I suspect it would run sluggishly. Does anyone have any experience with this, and can you point me in the direction of some recommended hardware specs? My project leader has asked for specs, so that we can either upgrade my current setup or get a new machine.

Any experiences would be appreciated :)

Windows and Parallels runs fine on pretty much any machine with sufficient RAM (4GB upwards). I've worked on (smaller) projects on a white 2006 MacBook and I found it to be absolutely usable so minimum requirements really are not an issue. It's just about how patient you are and how much you can benefit from faster building-times etc.As with native system what brings you the biggest boost will be Flash Memory instead of a HardDiskDrive in most cases. Also, think about how much RAM you want to use for your virtual machine and add at least 2GB to be reserved for OS X.

Obviously, get a fully loaded current MacBook Pro if that's an option.

If not, upgrade the RAM in your system to 16GB, which you can do pretty cheaply. Additionally, you're likely going to need a larger HD.

I'd also install the Windows as a Bootcamp partition and then add it as a Parallels VW, so you have the option of running in straight Windows for large compiles and such.

Good luck,MB

How Can I Run Visual Studio 2017 On Mac

Forgot to add an answer, here it is a bit late: Parallels for mac serial key.

I tested Visual Studio on my Macbook with parallels, things did not run as quick as I wanted. Since it was no problem for me to get a brand new good specced windows computer from my workplace, I did that. I got a Lenovo Thinkpad W540 and things are running very well. I had to give up osx of course, but better than having a slow system.

Probably the most widely used developer tool is Visual Studio, and for that reason Parallels Desktop for Mac Pro Edition includes some special integration with Visual Studio. In this blog post I will describe and demo this integration.

When the Parallels Tools for Parallels Desktop Pro Edition are installed in Windows, a Visual Studio plug-in, VMDebugHelper.vsix, is placed in the DevTools folder in the Parallels Tools folder in Windows. (See Figure 1.)

To install this plug-in, all the user must do is double-click on this file when Visual Studio is running.

This plug-in simplifies the use of remote debugging. In this context, “remote debugging” means debugging a program running in another virtual machine (VM) while you’re running Visual Studio and developing an app in a VM.

This plug-in installs a new menu in Visual Studio. (See Figure 2.)

Figure 2: The Parallels remote debugging menu in Visual Studio.

In this figure, I have the choice of the four currently running VMs: Windows XP, Windows 10, Windows 8.1 Pro, and Windows 7. The following 30-second video shows a remote debugging session of a small console application in the Windows 8.1 VM: Parallels desktop 13 for mac upgrade.

In the video, since the console application will run in the Desktop side of Windows 8.1, I first switch to the Desktop side. Then, in Visual Studio where I already have the console application project open and a breakpoint set in the code, I start a remote debugging session in Windows 8.1 Pro.

The necessary network connections are then established and the console application is launched in Windows 8.1. The breakpoint is reached, stepped over, and the console application runs to completion.

This type of remote debugging has three benefits for the developer:

Parallels Desktop 13 For Mac Pro Edition (Full+Serial Key) Parallels released Parallels Desktop 13 – a popular solution for virtualization on a Mac. New features of all versions of Parallels Desktop 13 for Mac: increased speed the launch of Windows 8, and 10 to 50%, a mode of travel that extends the battery life of laptop up to 25% support. This update for Parallels Desktop 13 for Mac 13.3.2 (43368) addresses overall stability and performance issues, and includes the following fixes and improvements: Resolves an issue with the mouse pointer getting stuck in macOS virtual machines. Resolves an issue with Mac.

Benefit 1:

Debugging can be done in a different OS than the OS in which development takes place. In Figure 2 and in the above video, I could have done the debugging in any one of four different OSes.

Benefit 2:

If the application which is being debugged were to crash (or even crash the OS), that crash is confined to the remote OS. My work in Visual Studio is safe.

Benefit 3:

Although not shown in this video, Parallels Desktop Pro Edition also enables the developer to simulate the network speed and even introduce network instabilities in the form of dropped packets.

If the application being debugged relied on networking, as is the case with Azure and many other technologies today, the application can be tested in a low bandwidth scenario and with varying amounts of network noise. (This network conditioning has been the subject of another blog post.)

We’re looking forward to adding even more integration with other development tools in Parallels Desktop Pro Edition. Let us know the tools you would like to see Parallels Desktop Pro Edition work closely with in a comment, or reach out to us on Facebook or Twitter.
